SAILING INSTRUCTOR

Position Description:

The Sailing Instructor (SI) is responsible for teaching and assisting in several classes of the BPYC Junior Sailing Program (JSP). This will include classes at several different skill levels and periodic outings. The SI will also assist with Club operations when not involved with the sailing program.

The Sailing Instructor reports to the Junior Program Director. He/she also coordinates with the Racing Instructor when assisting in racing classes. The Sailing Instructor supervises any Junior Instructors working with his/her classes.

 

Specific Job Accountabilities:

Administration:

bulletAttend instructor orientation (one day program)
bulletrequired weekly working lunch with entire BPYC Sailing staff (w/ JSC member)
bulletspecial events/trips (attend and help execute)
bulletrecord-keeping - attendance records incl. performance & attendance on all students (all records to be kept @ BPYC)
bulletregistration (assist Director)
bulletassist with boat & equipment maintenance (minimum 2x weekly washing, repairs & boat maintenance log submitted)

Other Duties, Club Operations

bulletpromote & support the overall image of the Club, Officers, Trustees, staff & programs

 

Requirements:

A candidate must have a thorough knowledge of small boat sailing skills, especially seamanship and sportsmanship. He or she should be a minimum of 18 years old, with experience and interest in working with children to develop a lifelong interest in sailing in a safe and caring environment. An applicant must be a self-starter as this is a flexible program and instructor input is essential.

US Sailing Certification (Level 1), 1 year teaching experience, US Coast Guard Limited Master's License, and current CPR & First Aid Certificates are required. We can help you to get the required certification and license.
