RACING INSTRUCTOR

Position Description:

The Racing Instructor is responsible for the design, coordination and teaching of the racing portion of the BPYC Junior sailing program. This portion of the program includes racing classes in Optimists, Vanguard Prams, 420’s and Lasers; interclubs; NSA/USSA ladder events; and the BPYC racing program in optimists, Vanguard prams, 420’s, lasers, turnabouts and Rhodes 18’s. The Racing Instructor also assists the Junior Program Director in teaching Blue Fleet classes. He will also assist the other employees when not involved with the sailing program.

The Racing Instructor reports to the Junior Program Director. He/she also works with the Club Manager to coordinate the smooth running of the Club. The Racing Instructor supervises the Sailing Instructor and any Junior Instructors working with his/her classes.

Personal Attributes:

A candidate should have a thorough knowledge of small boat sailing skills, especially racing, seamanship and sportsmanship. He or she should be a minimum of 18 years old, with experience and interest in working with children to develop a lifelong interest in sailing in a safe and caring environment. An applicant must be a self-starter as this is a flexible program and instructor input is essential.

US Sailing Certification (Level 1 and Level 2 or Instructor Trainer preferred), 3 years teaching experience, extensive racing experience and accomplishments, Coast Guard Limited Master's license, and current CPR & First Aid Certificates are required.
